Research shows 30% of servers are sitting “comatose”

New analysis reveals that more than $30 billion (nearly £20 billion) worth of servers worldwide are sitting idle, highlighting the problem of data centre provisioning and management.

Rapid pace of technological change makes IT decisions 'more challenging'

Rackspace has revealed results of a new study that reveals two thirds (66 per cent) of surveyed IT managers agree the rapid pace of technological change is making decisions about IT investment more difficult than 10 years ago. The study, which polled 250 IT decision makers across the UK, found that as a result of this rapid pace of change, 62 per cent of IT decision makers have invested in hardware or software that has never been used by the organisation.

Tintri has released its 2015 State of Storage study that captures the pain points and priorities of over 1,000 data centre professionals. While the study highlights performance, capital expenses and management as three of the top storage pains, it also found that organisations are still making buying decisions based on the needs of physical workloads, despite the fact that the percentage of virtualised workloads has grown to 75 percent in the last decade.

Internet of Things spending to reach $1.7 trillion in 2020

The Internet of Things (IoT) continues to gain momentum as vendors and enterprises begin to embrace the opportunities this market presents. According to new research from International Data Corporation (IDC), the worldwide Internet of Things market will grow from $655.8 billion in 2014 to $1.7 trillion in 2020 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.9%.
