Exponential-e has implemented a project to provide Empire Cinemas with a Wide Area Network (WAN) solution, supporting 16 business locations across the UK. The five year deal connects Empire Cinemas with its master server in Dusseldorf, Germany, providing it with high-speed Internet running at up to 100 Megabits per second, a virtualised firewall to protect against malicious web traffic and remote working capabilities for all sites.

The state-of-the-art connection, which runs over Exponential-e’s 100 Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 national network, provides the foundation for Empire Cinemas to run business critical applications such as email, chip and pin financial transactions and its comprehensive ticketing system from all of its UK sites.

Exponential-e has also implemented a Virtual Private Lan Service (VPLS) link that connects each UK business location directly with Dusseldorf. This means that, in the event of an outage at Empire Cinema’s Leicester Square headquarters, all its sites across the UK can continue to process financial transactions and online ticket sales as normal. To further protect against potential network downtime, a DSL-based termination line has also been installed on the network that enables Exponential-e to remotely monitor it for system failures around the clock and pro-actively correct any problems extremely quickly.

“It’s a great privilege to be working with one of the UK’s most recognised leisure brands,” commented Lee Wade, CEO of Exponential-e. “Empire Cinemas knew from the outset the benefit of deploying new technologies and their crucial role in the future success of its business. The next key challenge was selecting a provider that could design and implement a bespoke solution that could meet its unique needs, while also guaranteeing a rock-solid solution for reliability for the next five years.”

Manjeet Sehmi, IT Manager, Empire Cinemas commented: “Given the spread out location of our UK operations, this fast, robust, state-of-the-art network will become the glue that binds our company together and determines its success moving forward. With the majority of our business processes now conducted online it’s essential that we are able to operate 24/7 without the risk of system outages, which, unfortunately, have become a regular occurrence over the last few years. By partnering with Exponential-e we can now be assured of a consistently reliable network link to all our UK sites, as well as comprehensive technical support in the unlikely event of any problems.”
