MapR announces OCTO as first Advantage partner in France

Strategic partnership to meet growing demand for enterprise-class Apache Hadoop across the region.

MapR Technologies, Inc., the Hadoop technology leader, has announced OCTO as its first Advantage partner in France as part of on-going regional expansion to meet growing demand for Big Data-related projects.

Founded in 1998, OCTO is an international group with subsidiaries in France, Brazil, Switzerland, Morocco and Belgium. OCTO’s team of 150 expert consultants work across a diverse set of projects – including Big Data, mobility, high performance architectures and DevOp – to help clients, including Canal+, Orange, Fortis and Danone, design information systems and applications to transform their businesses.

“Hadoop is becoming critical to the infrastructure for many of our clients, and it is important for us to maintain a strategic alliance with MapR as the platform delivering those capabilities required for successful large-enterprise deployment,” says Julien Cabot, Director of Big Data Analytics for OCTO. “It is clear that MapR is designed to address many of the limitations within Hadoop with a platform that can truly scale. It is also important for us that the product be backed by an expert local team, and that the company has a credible roadmap, which is vital for the long-term success of architectures built for Big Data.”

The Big Data Analytics Team at OCTO will use MapR to help clients deploy large scale data processing solutions based on Hadoop, NoSQL, Storm, and next generation machine learning techniques. Cabot highlights banking, insurance, telecom, media, and utilities industries as key early adopters of Big Data technologies.

MapR set up European operations earlier this year, with Paris-based Xavier Guerin appointed as Vice President for Southern Europe and Benelux. Guerin has over 22 years of industry experience, following senior technology executive roles at EMC Isilon, NetApp and Sun Microsystems. “OCTO is a great example of a forward-thinking and progressive organisation that is embracing new technology to solve the challenges and unlock the potential of Big Data,” explains Guerin. “Demand for Hadoop is growing in France and across the region, and we are now in the process of signing a community of partners that can help us capitalise on this opportunity more quickly.”
