Breakthrough Forward! by Unisys platform

New solution uses fabric-based architecture to bring mission-critical security and performance to Intel-based workloads.

Unisys Corporation says that its new Forward!™ by Unisys enterprise computing platform is available for delivery to clients.

Forward! by Unisys is a breakthrough fabric-based platform that brings unmatched levels of mission-critical security, availability, scalability and predictable computing performance to workloads running on Intel-based servers.

With its blend of mission-critical performance and open-systems flexibility, Forward! by Unisys is ideal for running secure cloud and big data workloads, boosting the performance of ERP applications such as SAP, addressing server sprawl by consolidating data center resources, and migrating from legacy systems that use the Unix operating environment.

In contrast to typical virtualization environments that share common resources, leading to unpredictable performance, the Forward! platform uses Unisys’ advanced secure partitioning (s Par®) software technology to create a secure “container” of dedicated resources for each application workload. Combined with industry-standard Intel® Xeon® family processors, this approach provides the flexibility and cost benefits of virtualization with the predictable performance of proprietary Unix systems.

“The availability of Forward! by Unisys culminates years of innovative thinking and hard work by our teams to bring a new paradigm to the enterprise computing market,” said Dominick Cavuoto, president, Unisys Technology, Consulting and Integration Solutions. “For our clients, today’s announcement is just the start of a more secure, more flexible, more cost-efficient way of powering their mission-critical applications. We look forward to helping organisations realise the very real advantages of this breakthrough platform.”

Unisys estimates that, compared to competitive Unix systems, the Forward! platform can cut capital expenses up to 60 percent and reduce total cost of ownership up to 40 percent and compared to physical Linux or Windows environments, a partitioned Forward! platform can eliminate up to 70 percent of physical servers and reduce software licensing and hardware maintenance costs by as much as 70 percent.

To help organisations realise the value of the Forward! platform, Unisys is also offering extensive consulting services, including data center transformation planning, design and implementation, as well as services for Unix-to-Linux applications migration, ERP applications such as SAP and platform migration, and data center consolidation.

As an extra measure of mission-critical security, the Forward! fabric platform can be integrated with the Unisys Stealth™ cybersecurity solution, which renders applications, data and devices virtually invisible on the network.
