New levels of network visibility

Emulex Corporation says that IRESS, a global provider of comprehensive financial securities and wealth management systems, is deploying the EndaceProbe™ Intelligent Network Recorder (INR) and the EndaceVision™ software suite to improve the network performance and security monitoring capabilities in its data centres, the first of which is located in Sydney, Australia.

As a premier provider of services and solutions for the global financial and wealth markets, IRESS provides critical real-time market data to its clients and executes trades for them through the IRESS Order System (IOS). The challenge for IRESS was how to grow their overall system capacity, improve their security posture, and continually improve on their service level agreements (SLAs) to their clients, while avoiding uncontrolled growth in the operational costs associated with network and security monitoring tools. Specifically, IRESS looked for a solution that would provide a new level of network security visibility, improve resolution on trade latency monitoring, and allow them to consolidate their network visibility toolset. To achieve this, IRESS selected the EndaceProbe INR and the EndaceVision software suite as the next generation of network visibility tools for their enterprise.

“We selected the EndaceProbe INR solution to not only consolidate our network visibility tools, but also to ensure our customers’ data is transmitted safely and securely,” said Dale Monger, global head of networks, IRESS. “After a very successful pilot deployment, we have begun using the EndaceProbe INR in our production environment and are extremely happy with the results – we were able to increase our ability to monitor trade latency and network security, while lowering our operational expenditures and the complexity of our network management.”

IRESS’s initial network visibility solution included the EndaceProbe 7000 INR in its Sydney data centre. The EndaceProbe 7000 INR provides the network data capture and recording infrastructure for the visibility solution by delivering continuous 100 percent accurate packet capture and recording in 10/40/100GbE environments. Additionally, the ability of the EndaceProbe INR to provide nanosecond-accurate time stamps for every packet enables the critical network timing analysis that IRESS required to meet client SLAs on trade execution. IRESS’s initial deployment of the EndaceProbe INR exceeded their expectations, and they now plan to deploy the tools worldwide.

“Today, the network is a critical component for financial enterprises to deliver products and services to their customers,” said Mike Riley, senior vice president and general manager, Endace division, Emulex. “The combination of the EndaceProbe INR and EndaceVision, have enabled IRESS to significantly increase their network and security visibility, while simplifying workflow for network and security operations staff and improving time to resolution for critical issues. We are very happy to provide products and solutions to our customers like IRESS that improve their network visibility, and provide significant positive value to their businesses.”
