Teraco setting standards for vendor neutral data centres in Africa

Teraco Data Environments, Africa’s first vendor neutral data centre, has proven once again that it is a world-class facility by achieving a full ISO 9001 quality certification with no exclusions, as well as Payment Card Industry Data Security standard (PCI DSS). Both certifications cover all three of Teraco’s operational data centres in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

The SABS, a leading global provider of standards, management systems, business improvement and regulatory approval information, closely audited Teraco’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and found that it meets all the requirements of the ISO 9001 QMS Standard.

Teraco’s Head of Risk and Compliance, Emmi Nicholl says the company is extremely proud of its full certification with no exclusions: “There are very few data centres, certainly in Africa, that have full accreditation. We are proud of ours and remain fully committed to achieving impressive levels of client service excellence and quality.”
Nicholl says the accreditation simply makes the company’s steadfast commitment to quality management official. “This goes beyond us having a certificate for our wall. Teraco is genuinely and fundamentally committed to total quality management; having an undeviating client focus, and a continual emphasis on improving processes throughout the organisation.

The PCI DSS certification is effectively a value-add to Teraco’s clients according to Nicholl: “Teraco does not process card payments, but many of our clients do, so it made sense to tick this box on their behalf.” By attaining the PCI DSS certification, Teraco ensures that robust and comprehensive standards are met, including prevention, detection and appropriate reaction to security incidents.

“Having achieved these accreditations in under one year is a notable achievement,” says Nicholl. “Teraco is now working towards its ISO 27001 certification, an information security management system standard which will again ensure excellent security levels for our clients.”
