Human Care Systems selects Perspecsys

Human Care Systems has selected the Perspecsys AppProtex Cloud Data Protection Gateway to secure patient medical data in the world's leading public cloud SaaS platform.

Wanting to leverage the power and flexibility of its preferred SaaS Service Cloud, but needing to address tough EU legal and regulatory data residency and privacy compliance requirements, Human Care Systems conducted a rigorous assessment of the market for cloud data protection gateways. The analysis led them to the Perspecsys AppProtex solution as the only way to achieve the highest level of data protection without impacting the usability and functionality of the cloud application they had selected. In fact, they found that Perspecsys uniquely offered the most advanced and secure form of tokenisation that aligned particularly well with increasingly complex data residency regulations emerging around the globe.

Human Care Systems designs and delivers high impact patient, physician and pharmacist support services for 15 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies in the world. According to Andrew Taff, director of operations and technology at Human Care Systems, "After selecting our preferred Service Cloud SaaS platform, we assessed several Cloud Data Protection Gateway options and selected the Perspecsys AppProtex Gateway to meet strict EU data residency and privacy compliance requirements while recording, storing and processing patient treatment and medical data in the cloud. It was very clear after our assessment of solutions that Perspecsys was the leader in securing highly sensitive patient medical data via tokenisation, without impacting the functionality of our SaaS applications, which is of paramount importance to our business."

The Perspecsys AppProtex Gateway allows HCS to retain the confidential and sensitive patient medical data within their local regional data center and only surrogate token values are transferred to the Service Cloud SaaS platform based in the United States. AppProtex enables critical cloud application functionality to be maintained, including advanced search, sort and reporting to work.

Human Care Systems found the tokenisation approach appealing. Encryption presents a security concern for some because encrypted data stored and processed in the cloud can be decrypted and exposed through the use of a key or mathematical derivation. Perspecsys tokenisation differs significantly from encryption, as there is no cipher algorithm to mathematically transform tokenised data back to its clear text. Implementing Perspecsys' tokenisation solution means that clear text data stays within the owner's secured network and never leaves the owner's control in any format -- providing maximum security and ensuring compliance with data residency and privacy regulations.

"When organisations are faced with strict compliance regulations and data residency issues, we're delighted that they turn to us for support. Our mission is to make the cloud a possibility for all organisations; whether they operate within one country and need to ensure data security while making their move to the cloud, or do business across several countries and must comply with complex regulations," said David Canellos, president and CEO, Perspecsys.

In Germany, Perspecsys offers this unique cloud protection solution together with our implementation partner ClientHouse/Accenture, a leading cloud computing and CRM consultancy, that lets organisations take full advantage of the cloud while ensuring their sensitive, regulated data remains on premise and under their full control.
