SIA deploys Red Hat solutions

Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization enable SIA infrastructure to reach higher levels of performance and flexibility, reliability, operational simplification and cost reduction.

SIA, a European leader in the design, creation, and management of technology infrastructures and services for financial and central institutions, corporate and Public Administration bodies, has chosen Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to support a number of its mission-critical systems and to reach a higher operational efficiency with business benefits.

Among SIA’s main innovations in the last few years, there has been a gradual evolution towards open source systems: specifically, SIA adopted Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Satellite, on which approximately 200 physical servers and 400 virtual servers currently operate.

In 2013, deploying Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization enabled SIA to migrate its infrastructure for the delivery of database services, from a proprietary technology to an Intel x86-based platform. This has improved the company’s operations and management, using standard technologies and avoiding possible forms of lock-in.
The migration to new virtual systems is currently underway, however it has already generated a number of tangible results, including a performance increase. In some specific cases, SIA has experienced a significant reduction of the time needed to process transactions (approximately 270 percent), compared to previous measurements conducted on physical systems. This has contributed to an increased flexibility and a general simplification of operations, as well as considerable costs reduction. Additionally, the new virtual infrastructure has enabled SIA to handle a significant increase in the volume of transactions operated by these systems.
As part of its extensive collaboration with Red Hat, SIA has also implemented Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform for the development of specific applications and services. It is also currently evaluating Red Hat CloudForms, Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud management solution, and the possibility of creating a cloud infrastructure.
