Bristol City Council chooses G-Cloud services from Eduserv for move to cloud

G-Cloud services underpin the council’s move to new ICT delivery model to support £90m cost saving programme.

Bristol City Council is to work with Eduserv, the not-for-profit managed cloud services provider, on the migration of its IT infrastructure to the cloud in support of a council wide building consolidation programme.

The contract, which was procured through the government’s G-Cloud procurement framework, will see Eduserv take over the day-to-day management of the council’s IT estate and make use of Eduserv’s cloud migration services to support the transformation programme.

The project is estimated to be worth £1.5m over two years and will support the council’s move to a new ICT delivery strategy to support its £90m cost savings programme.

Andrew Hawkins, Sales Director at Eduserv said: “We have worked hard to develop a cloud proposition for local government which allows organisations to choose the right mix of IT and professional services for the specific challenges they may face. The benefit of having our own data centre is local government can free up their real estate immediately by collocating in our data centre and migrating to the cloud in a controlled environment. We are looking forward to supporting Bristol City Council on its move to the cloud.”

Steven Pendleton, Service Manager: Commissioning and Supplier Relationship Management, at Bristol City Council added: “Like every council, we are faced with the challenge of delivering high quality services while reducing our costs by 30%. The ICT market is changing rapidly, becoming much more commoditised and consumer led, where significant economies of scale are now possible.

The council will not need to own much of its ICT in future; it will buy services that match demand in a much more flexible way. IT transformation plays a critical role in allowing us to achieve that. Moving our IT estate to the cloud will give us a more flexible cost-effective resource which can adapt to our changing needs.
In doing this we are pleased to be working with Eduserv, supporting SME’s and delivering the Digitial City agenda.”
