Public Wi-Fi provider, The Cloud, a BskyB company, has successfully deployed Dell SonicWALL’s Content Filtering Service and firewalls to offer additional security capabilities to customers. The use of Dell SonicWALL solutions has enabled The Cloud to strengthen network security and save money from combining solutions, as well having the capacity to handle traffic spikes even on the most demanding enterprise networks, using a scalable, high density, multi-core, high-performance architecture.

Part of BskyB since February 2011, The Cloud is a public access Wi-Fi provider with thousands of hotspots and millions of registered users across the UK and continental Europe, enabling its customers including Caffe Nero and Wagamama to offer a Wi-Fi service to their customers in their establishments and the company is therefore responsible for maintaining the infrastructure, including providing safe searches, blocking websites and enabling a list of categories to be applied to the filter.

The Cloud was previously running through a proxy-based solution, as demand grew, the solution was not allowing the organisation to grow and increase capacity sufficiently. Working with Dell, The Cloud implemented the Dell SonicWALL Content Filtering Service to enforce protection and productivity policies, and block inappropriate, unproductive and illegal web content. The Cloud also supplemented its Dell SonicWALL E-Class Network Security Appliance firewalls with Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive 9400 next-generation firewalls in high availability (HA) mode to handle traffic spikes and support the growing number of end users.

The Cloud chose Dell because it provides:

· A reliable, flexible and scalable content filtering service and next generation firewall

o Dell SonicWALL Next Generation firewalls scale up and down on demand, while providing protection to all users and the network. By paring the firewall with the content filtering system, costs were considerably reduced.

· Wi-Fi service maintained when iPhone upgrade doubled traffic volume

o By implementing a fully scalable next generation firewall, The Cloud is prepared for a sudden uptake in usage at any time, such as the break of major world stories and major mobile operating system updates.

· Twice the capability at a quarter of the cost

o By combining the Content Filtering Service with Dell SonicWALL’s Next Generation firewall, The Cloud was able to strengthen its security, while reducing costs thanks to the elimination of a costly dedicated filtering service.
