BEACON consortium aims to improve cloud networking and application deployment

Flexiant has joined BEACON, a HORIZON 2020 Research Program consortium, worth €3.6 Million for the purpose of developing new innovative techniques for cloud networking and to develop an integrated management cloud layer that enables an efficient and secure deployment of cloud applications.

Funded under the ICT theme of HORIZON 2020 Research Program of the European Union, the BEACON consortium combines leading research organizations and universities across Europe in a collaborative research project. Flexiant is joined on this project by CETIC in Belgium, Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, OpenNebula Systems in Spain, IBM Haifa, Israel, Universita di Messina, Italy and Lufthansa Systems in Germany.

Head of Research at Flexiant, Craig Sheridan said, “The opportunity offered by Horizon 2020 is energizing to ambitious companies like Flexiant. The job creation and growth opportunity allows Flexiant to increase our capacity to innovate and take bold ideas to market profitably. BEACON will enable us to develop our industry leading cloud software in line with leading research in future cloud technology.”

The BEACON project will deliver a homogeneous virtualization layer, on top of heterogeneous underlying physical networks, computing and storage infrastructures, providing ease of application deployment across different clouds and datacenters.
