Sonus Networks' Session Border Controller Software edition (SBC SWe) will be part of a joint project with HP at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, demonstrating how delivery of Cloud based Unified Communications (UC) and Rich Communications Services (RCS) can be accelerated through virtualisation.

The demonstration – located in the HP booth in Hall 2 Stand 2D50 – will comprise the Sonus SBC SWe running as a fully featured Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) application on the HP OpenNFV Platform. Together, Sonus and HP will demonstrate how hardware, power and space requirements for deploying network functions can be reduced without losing functionality.

Sonus and HP will demonstrate the Virtual Network Function as a Service (VNFaaS) use case, by enabling service providers to virtualise enterprise customer premise equipment (CPE) on service providers’ virtual networks so that enterprises can consume the resources they require as virtual services. As network functions are virtualised, this demonstration will show that the typical base of dedicated hardware appliances normally used by network operators is no longer required. Consequently, scalability and customisation of real time communications features and services such as UC or RCS become easier to implement across the network.
The Sonus SBC SWe is the industry’s first software based SBC architected to deliver unlimited scalability with the same advanced features and functionality of the Sonus SBC 5000 Series on a virtualised platform. The portability and flexibility of the SBC SWe makes it an ideal choice for service providers that have invested in virtualisation technology, prefer pre packaged “solutions in a box,” require remote network deployments or want to expand opportunities into new geographic markets where deploying a hardware solution would be impractical or cost prohibitive. Sonus provides customers with a set of performance specifications for their host platforms, enabling customers to rapidly expand capacity, calls per second, features, transcoding, and security capabilities with a simple license key as business demands change.
