DataCentred recognised for energy efficiency

DataCentred has achieved participant status for the European Code of Conduct for data centres (“CoC”), a voluntary code which promotes the adoption of energy-efficient best practices amongst data centre owners and operators.

Since its conception, DataCentred has been dedicated to reducing its energy consumption and environmental impact. Becoming a participant of the EU Code of Conduct demonstrates DataCentred’s long-term commitment to designing and operating data centres with optimum energy efficiency and high environmental standards.

Launched in 2008, the EU Code of Conduct was created in response to increasing energy consumption in data centres and the need to reduce the related environmental impacts. Its aim is to inform and stimulate data centre operators and owners to reduce energy consumption in a cost-effective manner without hampering the mission critical function of data centres.

The benefits of becoming a participant within the code include a public demonstration of DataCentred’s commitment to operating within an energy efficient framework. Participant status is also used as a significant selection criterion and as a sustainability differentiator by potential customers. Of the c.200 CoC members, DataCentred is one of the newest and smallest data centre providers to participate.

The Code includes a practical methodology designed to help data centre operators’ benchmark environmental performance. It aims to encourage cost effective adaptation of practices that will improve the energy performance of datacentre infrastructure as well as IT equipment. The CoC is a voluntary program with members including vendors, industry experts, researchers and data centre operators around the world. Well known participants and endorsers of the code include Microsoft, The Green Grid, Intel, BT, IBM and EMC.

The best practises identified by the CoC are at the heart of DataCentred’s energy management system, including replacing legacy plant and equipment with state of the art technology where energy efficiency is a key differentiating factor. DataCentred is also committed to investing in additional metering systems which will measure and identify areas of excess energy consumption throughout the data centre.

By continually improving energy performance, DataCentred is demonstrating its long term commitment to the CoC but also to its customers as they will be the ultimate beneficiary of the operating cost savings.
