Siemon improves network visibility, monitoring and management

Siemon has launched EagleEye Connect automated infrastructure management (AIM) software solution. This latest addition to the company’s state-of-the-art portfolio automatically monitors and documents a network’s physical layer connections and device status for unparalleled visualisation, security, asset management, reduced downtime and increased staff productivity.

A server-based solution, EagleEye Connect acts as the central interface for Siemon’s innovative MapIT® G2 AIM system. It collects, monitors and stores network intelligence data from any MapIT G2 master control panels and smart patch panels, which are available in category 6 UTP, category 6A F/UTP and UTP, and category 7A F/STP for copper patch panels, as well as in singlemode and multimode MTP-to-LC and LC-to-LC enclosures for optical fibre.

Intuitively designed for optimum ease-of-use, EagleEye Connect is packed with features, including a navigation tree showing the hierarchical relationship of all network assets down to the port and device level. Identification of equipment is made easy thanks to realistic graphical views of floors with device locations and front and back views of racks with patch connections, while end-to-end circuit traces from the switch port to the end device allow the user to identify exactly how a network has been configured. Furthermore, remote access via a web browser enables networks across multiple facilities and sites to be managed from anywhere in the world.

Network security is greatly enhanced thanks to the software’s ability to carry out 24/7 monitoring and provide alerts to designated personnel in the event of unauthorised connection/disconnections, and movement of IT equipment and devices. Tony Veatch, Siemon’s director of product management, explained, ‘With security a top concern and downtime primarily caused by personnel making errors when configuring moves, adds and changes (MACs), today’s IT leaders need non-stop monitoring of all IT assets and methods to improve accuracy and productivity. EagleEye Connect’s enhanced security features prevent loss of data and help to ensure compliance with security regulations like HIPAA and Sarbanes Oxley.’

Quick and easy visualisation of a network infrastructure is facilitated through a real time database, and an auto-discovery function allows an inventory to be automatically updated and maintained. Its ability to assign, manage and track specific activities can also streamline work order management.

Commenting on EagleEye Connect’s ability to speed response time and improve accuracy of MACs, Veatch said, ‘This significantly reduces downtime and operating expense – issues that are important to all those responsible for smooth running networks. Furthermore, the software can document network assets in real time, thereby allowing our customers to maximise utilisation of their switch ports and rack space for reduced capital expense.’

With the future in mind, EagleEye Connect is also able to expand its functionality as a network infrastructure develops. The software includes a comprehensive reporting function that facilitates planning for growth or changes, including inventory and capacity reports to show available ports and rack space.
