NETGEAR has expanded its business-class ReadyNAS Rackmount Series of high performance Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances with ReadyNAS® 3138. This ReadyNAS provides new capabilities compared to the previous-generation ReadyNAS 3130. With ReadyNAS 3138, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can achieve a level of data protection that is unmatched in the area of SMB storage.

ReadyNAS 3138 Series is a 1U rack mount form factor, 4-bay NAS appliance with capacity up to 32TB. It has a faster and more powerful quad-core Intel® processor for 2.4GHz of processing power, and offers 4GB of DRAM, twice as much as the previous model. It features four Gigabit Ethernet ports (1GbE), three USB ports (two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0), and two eSATA ports for additional data storage and transfer. Moreover, it runs the latest version of the groundbreaking NETGEAR ReadyNAS operating system (OS 6.4.1), which enables a wide set of business features including five levels of complete, inclusive data protection that are unique to NETGEAR ReadyNAS.

“Data availability and integrity are the top priorities of any business today,” said Douglas Cheung, senior product line manager for NETGEAR Storage. “ReadyNAS 3138 gives businesses an industry-leading data protection solution, with exceptional performance, at an attractive price point. This makes ReadyNAS 3138 the ideal choice for storage for any growing business.”

The five levels of data protection enabled by the ReadyNAS OS include RAID protection against hard drive failure, real time anti-virus, versioning with hourly snapshots against human error, bitrot protection against silent data corruption, and the easiest-to-set-up replication for cloud-managed disaster recovery available in a NAS today. The NETGEAR ReadyCLOUD® ecosystem offers a VPN-based personal cloud with security and versatile sync-, collaboration- and remote management capabilities without additional costs. The unique data protection capabilities of ReadyNAS 3138 ensure utmost user productivity and uptime in file serving environments as well as backup solutions.

“ReadyNAS 3138 serves files for our research group members —30 employees and students— at our Research Lab for Secure Information Systems. The performance of the ReadyNAS 3138 will make this a seamless experience and increase user productivity, especially when dealing with large amounts of data,” said Professor Robert Kolmhofer, head of the Department of Secure Information Systems at the University of Applied Sciences, Upper Austria, Campus Hagenberg. “We are happy about the NETGEAR ‘5 levels of protection’ approach, in particular the snapshot feature and bitrot protection, to protect our critical files in a way that wasn?t achievable before with an SMB NAS product. We like the integrated VPN within NETGEAR ReadyCLOUD, too. This allows us to securely manage the NAS remotely with minimum effort.”
