Colt IQ Network puts AWS connectivity on demand

Colt Technology Services has expanded its SDN-enabled Dedicated Cloud Access (DCA) On Demand offering, providing intelligent, secure and reliable private connectivity into the Amazon Web Services cloud.

Colt’s DCA service gives businesses a faster, more reliable cloud networking experience when compared to relying on public internet. With DCA On Demand, customers can leverage the Colt IQ Network to request new connections into the AWS cloud in real time, avoiding traditional telco service delivery processes, which could take days or weeks to complete.

It also allows customers to flex bandwidths up and down via a portal, bringing the flexibility that customers benefit from the AWS cloud to the network.  In line with this flexibility, customers now have the option to choose per-hour pricing plans, as well as more traditional fixed term contracts. Instant service delivery combined with the ability to flex services in real time gives additional benefits for cloud-enabled businesses, while delivering access to the cloud with the same confidence, performance and security as a private LAN or WAN.

Customers can choose from two AWS Direct Connect service offerings through the DCA platform. The Hosted Connection service allows customers to access AWS Virtual Private Clouds on a connection-by-connection basis. The Dedicated Port option, available in Q2 2017, allows customers to access multiple Virtual Private Clouds over the same connection.

The expansion of Colt’s IQ Network offering follows the recent launch of the AWS London Region, allowing UK customers to store their data within the country’s borders. This is AWS’s third European Region, joining existing regions in Ireland and Germany.

Colt has established ten AWS Direct Connect points of presence (PoPs) across Europe, offering connectivity into all three AWS regions.

According to Rajiv Datta, Colt’s Chief Technology Officer: “Public cloud services have long been associated with scalable, flexible capabilities, and our On Demand offering brings those same benefits and functionality to the network. An intelligent network is a critical part of the public cloud experience and the launch of our DCA On Demand service sets a new standard compared to existing WAN services or internet connections. Enterprises should be more demanding of the network, and with our On Demand portfolio we are challenging the status quo.”

This announcement marks the second major cloud service provider to become available on the Colt On Demand platform, following Microsoft Azure.

Going forward, Colt will announce the roll-out of DCA On Demand for other leading cloud service providers, allowing enterprise customers to enjoy a consistent experience across multiple cloud platforms. As part of the Colt IQ Network roadmap, DCA On Demand will also launch in Asia later in 2017. More than 5,000 enterprise buildings and 200 Data Centres are currently eligible for On Demand connectivity to public clouds.
