STULZ, a designer and manufacturer of mission-critical air conditioning solutions, has unveiled its latest innovation: the CyberRack SideCooler. This closed-loop water-cooled unit caters to the cooling requirements of data centres, particularly those in space-constrained environments or remote locations. It offers substantial benefits for edge and micro data centres, where managing high heat loads is crucial for optimal operation and uptime.

Designed for flexibility, the CyberRack SideCooler can seamlessly integrate between server racks or within a micro data centre. This ensures efficient cooling directly at the heat source, with a compact footprint that enhances space efficiency. It boasts front and rear service access points to simplify maintenance activities. Moreover, the inclusion of hot-swappable fans facilitates rapid, safe replacement without disruption to operations.

As server power density increases, driven by advancements in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning, so too does heat generation. Matteo Foroni, Product Manager at STULZ S.p.A., highlights the role that the CyberRack SideCooler plays in meeting these increased demands. Built to be compatible with racks from all manufacturers, it aids various airflow concepts while embodying high reliability for continuous operation.

The CyberRack SideCooler negates the need for hot and cold aisle separation by delivering cooling within a closed-loop server rack. Utilising three horizontal zones, it consistently maintains necessary airflow and supply air temperature, preventing hotspots without excessive energy use. High water temperatures are achievable, thus extending the feasibility of free cooling. Efficiency is maximised when paired with the STULZ CyberCool Explorer WS chiller.

In an effort to minimise environmental impact, STULZ has incorporated intelligent control and electronically commutated (EC) fan and motor technology into the CyberRack SideCooler. This results in high energy efficiency and low noise emissions. Its advanced control system offers an intuitive touchscreen display option, providing simplicity in operation and seamless integration with building management systems. An integrated warning and alarm system ensures operational reliability and peace of mind.

"Edge and micro data centres come with their own set of challenges, especially when it comes to cooling and managing varying thermal loads," Foroni added. "...the CyberRack SideCooler... [is] as robust, flexible, versatile, as it is energy-efficient. Built specifically to handle high heat loads, it offers excellent functionality, making it the perfect choice for edge and micro data centre deployments."
