DiscountASP.NET launches Snapp Systems

DiscountASP.NET enters the Platform-as-a-Service space with Snapp Systems, an elastic cloud hosting solution for .NET applications. Snapp is the first PaaS to include a configurable staging and production environment for each application.

DiscountASP.NET announces their formal entrance into cloud hosting services with the launch of Snapp Systems. Snapp is an elastic platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution for .NET applications and the first PaaS to include a configurable staging and production environment for each application.

“For the last ten years, we’ve focused on providing cutting-edge shared hosting solutions for .NET developers, but we’ve seen the needs of developers change over time and we want to evolve our business with them.” said Takeshi Eto, VP Marketing and Business Development at DiscountASP.NET. “We are excited to expand our portfolio with our take on a .NET PaaS.”

The underlying technology for Snapp Systems is Windows Azure Services for Windows Server or Microsoft codename, Antares. Through Antares, Microsoft is providing partners with the same technology that powers Azure Web Sites so that hosting partners can run Azure Services on-premises and provide differentiated cloud hosting solutions.

“PaaS providers like Heroku and AppHarbor focused on solving application deployment issues and supported new ways to deploy applications directly from source control. We focused on solving the staging problem,” added Eto. “As a hosting provider, we hear from customers whose applications failed to work as expected even though it worked on their local computer. Our goal was to solve this issue.”

Since a hosted production server environment is typically configured differently from a user’s local computer, applications that work on a local system may not work as is in a hosted environment. Snapp Systems supports deployment via FTP, WebDeploy, GIT and Team Foundation Server to a staging site where users can test their applications before it is set live. After successful testing, users can easily publish their application from the staging site to the live production site without redeployment.

Snapp Systems is scalable with the ability to add and remove web workers on demand, and includes an easy rollback feature and an exception management system to help developers debug and identify issues within their code.
