Putting cloud service delivery and Business Intelligence together can be a powerful werapon in the armoury of any business. But by the very nature of the information being worked on and the results being produced, security becomes a major consideration.

So any pointer that indicates a potential service provider is on top of their game when it comes to managing its security regime is likely to be valuable to potential customers. That is why US-based Birst, a specialist in cloud-delivered BI services, has put itself forward for – and has now received - TRUSTed Cloud Data Privacy Certification and the TRUSTe Certified Privacy Seal.

Participation in the global TRUSTe program is part of Birst’s continued dedication to providing the best data privacy. It sees the award as demonstrating to customers that the company strictly adheres to privacy laws and regulations to ensure their information is protected.

This will also be of interest to potential European-based customers, as the TRUSTe program was one of the first to sign up to be part of the U.S. Department of Commerce's European Union (EU) safe harbor framework many years ago and subsequently launched its EU Safe Harbor Seal Program.

TRUSTe has certified that Birst meets the TRUSTed Cloud Data Privacy Certification standards, which are consistent with the EU Safe Harbor Framework Principles. This certification verifies that Birst’s data collection, use, and onward transfer practices comply with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework and enables Birst to self-certify their compliance with the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Though run by a fir-profit company, TRUSTe is amongst the most recognised Internet privacy validation programs in the world. It also granted Birst the TRUSTe Certified Privacy Seal.

With the TRUSTed Cloud Data Privacy Certification, users are assured that cloud services provided by Birst comply with the principles of the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework Principles when handling customer data. The certification, which targets cloud, SaaS and other online service providers, signifies that Birst adheres to TRUSTe’s high privacy standards of transparency and accountability when handling sensitive user data on behalf of its cloud customers.

The U.S.- EU Safe Harbor Framework enables U.S. companies which receive personal data from the European Union to comply with the European Commission Directive on Data Protection. This helps globally branded companies and Internet businesses that are targeting EU citizens to ensure that companies are handling European citizens’ data appropriately and in accordance with EU law.

“Customer concerns about the privacy surrounding the collection, storage and management of data in the Cloud are issues that Birst takes very seriously,” said Rick Spickelmier, CTO at Birst. “As a SaaS-based organisation, the level of protection we provide our customers and their data is paramount to our success. By participating in the TRUSTe program, Birst is not only reassuring current customers, but signifying to potential customers, in the U.S., in Europe, and in the rest of the world, that they can trust Birst to keep their data and personal information secure.”

TRUSTe is one of the longest established providers of data privacy management and has rigorous requirements for its TRUSTed Cloud Privacy Certification and EU Safe Harbor programs. Its cloud-based Data Privacy Management Platform delivers innovative technology products, including website monitoring and advertising compliance controls – along with privacy assessments and certifications.
