Nlyte goes SaaS with DCIM

Big datacentres usually get managed and optimised properly, but for smaller ones that job may prove too expensive and complex, so Nlyte is now offering them Datacentre Infrastructure Management as SaaS

Datacentre management and optimisation specialist, Nlyte Software, has made a bid to open up its market potential by introducing a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) edition of its existing datacentre infrastructure management (DCIM) platform. Known as Nlyte On-Demand, it creates a version that is faster and easier to buy and deploy.

“It is very clear that the time has come for enterprises to properly understand what assets they have in their data center and to properly manage the entire lifecycle of each of those assets in the context of a data center as a whole”

As one of the early contenders into the DCIM category, Nlyte has been providing solutions with a focus on the business aspects of datacentre asset management since 2004. It now intends to leverage this 10 years of experience to help accelerate the adoption of this capability in the thousands of enterprises it sees as running their datacentres sub-optimally.

According to market researchers, Gartner, DCIM tools have a market penetration of between 5 and 20 percent of the target audience, which gives Nlyte On-Demand are large potential marketplace of organisations that have not yet adopted any type of DCIM suite.

By combining the benefits of SaaS with a proven DCIM platform, Nlyte aims to make it possible for companies of any size to procure a scalable DCIM solution without incurring large upfront costs and complexities. Based on its flagship offering Nlyte 7, Nlyte On-Demand enables organisations to begin retooling their operational practices for efficiency and cost control.

It can provide users with what Nlyte claims is the most sophisticated data repository in the industry, coupled with standardised best practices-based workflow management, business intelligence for dashboards and reporting, capacity planning and asset management, plus the option of real-time energy data collection.

“It is very clear that the time has come for enterprises to properly understand what assets they have in their datacentre and to properly manage the entire lifecycle of each of those assets in the context of a datacentre as a whole,” said Doug Sabella, Nlyte Software President and CEO. “The lifecycle of the entire datacentre is comprised of the aggregation of all individual assets. IT organisations today are under extreme pressure to deliver SLA’s at the right cost, yet they have not been able to optimise the largest part of their cost structure, the physical underpinnings of their datacentre. As datacentres virtualise, the risk of stranding and sub-optimising these datacentres increases greatly.”

Nlyte On-Demand, in limited availability today, will be generally available January 2014 on a subscription basis.
