Ensim selected by Hitachi Data Systems

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has selected the Ensim Automation Suite to support Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) for VMware vSphere converged infrastructure. Ensim will also provide built in support for VMware vCenter and vCloud Director with Hitachi storage and application offerings for enterprise and service provider cloud deployments. HDS is a provider of advanced information technologies, services and solutions that help companies improve IT costs and agility. Ensim's technology will be integrated with HDS offerings to provide a complete turnkey cloud solution.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ensim's offering will be pre-bundled with UCP to enable the ordering, configuration, automated deployment, self-service, charge-back and ultimately enable an end-user or IT professional within an organization to take full advantage of IT as a service (ITaaS).

"To operate with optimal efficiency in today's landscape, end-users of enterprise and service providers benefit from an 'IT vending machine' approach where users can request application and infrastructure services from IT, while relieving IT of the burden of treating each request as a separate, manual project with custom approvals and exceptions," said William Fellows, 451 Research. "By combining the functionality of Ensim Automation Suite with Hitachi Data Systems platforms, the goal is to facilitate the entire process from start to finish and make it simpler for HDS customers to take full advantage of a cloud service model."

Hitachi UCP Pro for VMware vSphere, with its innovative Hitachi Unified Compute Platform Director software, centralizes and automates the management of servers, storage and networking components. It represents the next generation of converged infrastructure solutions in terms of unmatched reliability, flexibility, automation and performance to support even the most demanding workloads. UCP Director significantly reduces time-to-value and operational costs for even the most demanding applications. The deep integration of UCP Director into VMware vSphere and vCenter enables fast deployment of cloud infrastructure and efficient resource allocation, as well as simple automation of end-to-end infrastructure inventory, provisioning, operations and monitoring for streamlined management.

The Ensim Automation Suite (EAS) enhances the Hitachi UCP by enabling self-service for IT consumers, including marketplace, service catalog, provisioning, billing, and management, of users, organizations, and channels, for business applications, services, and infrastructure, in public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. This initial joint solution will support VMware's environments, with plans to support additional platforms like Microsoft and OpenStack as well as applications such as Exchange, Lync and others. The solution also supports an open service catalog to allow HDS customers to leverage EAS capabilities as a general purpose service catalog for ordering, chargeback/invoicing, and provisioning for any other products and services the customer may wish to incorporate.

"Hitachi Data Systems is widely recognized as a leader in providing converged infrastructure deployments that enable enterprises and service providers to improve flexibility and operate more efficiently," said David Wippich, CEO, Ensim. "We are pleased to apply Ensim's turnkey capabilities to UCP to make the most flexible and robust platforms possible and allow users to quickly and easily capitalize on the benefits of the cloud."

"A combination of increasing data center complexity and massive data growth is leading companies to seek new ways to deliver IT services in an on-demand, rapid, flexible and scalable way," said Miki Sandorfi, vice president, Hitachi Data Systems. "As a result, enterprises and service providers are looking for more agile service models such as private cloud. We are excited to partner with Ensim to provide our customers with a turnkey solution that will support the full spectrum of cloud service needs and allow them to fully leverage all the capabilities that Hitachi Data Systems has to offer."
