Interxion and OnApp package up clouds

Working together with Dell and Custom Connect, the pair have partnered to create an almost off-the-shelf cloud service delivery platform called CloudPOD, aimed at hosters and others

Managed Service Providers looking to move on to become Cloud Service Providers (CSPs)– or for that matter any business that can see an advantage in adding a CSP component to their range of services - have now been presented with a short-cut solution to getting a service up and running.

A partnership between European colocation datacentre specialist, Interxion and OnApp, which provides an IaaS platform for hosting services providers has resulted in the launch of a new CloudPOD package aimed at giving such companies with a rapid test and launch capability for new IaaS cloud services.

“To help service providers improve their service development and stay competitive, CloudPOD ensures they can instantly deploy a new cloud service when and where it’s market-ready.”

CloudPOD is a new range of all-in-one cloud packages from OnApp, combining the OnApp cloud management platform with software, hardware, hosting and connectivity from OnApp partners. It is available in partnership withboth Dell and Custom Connect, and gives service providers a turnkey way to deploy ready-to-run clouds at Interxion datacentres across Europe.

It is expected to significantly reduce time to market for new cloud services as it is usually complex and time consuming to find the right combination of software, hardware, connectivity and datacentre partners when trying to develop an enterprise-grade cloud platform or expand into new geographies. The CloudPOD accelerates cloud service delivery by combining OnApp’s IaaS platform, hardware from Dell, connectivity from Custom Connect and colocation hosting from Interxion.

This is, in effect, a complete cloud management system that enables service providers to offer high availability service-level agreements, and can be delivered at any of Interxion’s 36 datacentres in 11 European countries.

Service providers can try CloudPOD for free using the CloudPOD Test Lab in Interxion's City of London datacentre campus. The Test Lab allows service providers to familiarise themselves with the environment and trial different scenarios and integrations to obtain realistic results. Once the testing phase demonstrates the feasibility of CloudPOD, service providers can instantly deploy their new service via Interxion Cloud Hubs, a community of hosting, infrastructure providers, hyper scale platforms, systems integrators, software providers and networks.

“The cloud market is crowded with various providers vying for service superiority and market share, with many providers uncertain about how their cloud will perform,” said Jelle Frank van der Zwet, Interxion’s Cloud Marketing Manager. “To help service providers improve their service development and stay competitive, CloudPOD ensures they can instantly deploy a new cloud service when and where it’s market-ready.”

According to Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp, the partnership makes it much easier to bring new cloud services online by combining the OnApp platform with hardware, hosting and connectivity services. "With datacentres in 11 countries, and a choice of connectivity providers, the CloudPOD is particularly attractive to large hosts and telcos looking for an easy way to expand their cloud footprint in Europe."
