Deutsche Post’s new smartphone messenger app, SIMSme, is relying on Interoute Virtual Data Centre Berlin for its underlying cloud infrastructure.
Since its launch Deutsche Post has seen the number of people using its Messenger app grow steadily and thanks to the elastic nature of Interoute Virtual Data Centre it can quickly scale to meet this rising demand. Interoute hosts the app in its German Virtual Data Centre, which is based on a highly secure physical infrastructure in Interoute’s Berlin Data Centre.
Interoute Virtual Data Centre provides the cloud infrastructure for SIMSme and guarantees smooth operation, regardless of how many people use the app at the same time. Invisible to the end user, this underlying platform is nevertheless crucial for the performance of the app. To meet the large number of new users who signed up to use the app, Interoute was able to quickly scale up the computing infrastructure it provides Deutsche Post, adding 30 times the initial computing power provisioned to meet the rising demand.
The ability to control which geographic Virtual Data Centre zone or zones are used to host a user’s data ensures the SIMSme app data stays within German national borders, secure in Interoute’s Berlin Data Centre. This, along with the ISO 20000 and ISO 27001 certifications the Data Centre holds were important reasons why Deutsche Post chose Interoute’s cloud platform. Ensuring the security of the app data is a central premise of SIMSme, as the users of the app are guaranteed complete control over their personal information. To ensure this level of security, the messenger app is secured with end-to-end encryption, which has been tested and approved by TÜV IT. In addition, the app has a special feature that allows the user to setup and trigger the automatic self-destruction of particularly confidential messages after a few seconds.

SIMSme is free of charge and as we are not using this opportunity to fund the service through advertisements like other messenger app services, it’s also free from advertisements.”
