Consumer law firm McMillan Williams Solicitors Limited has implemented its business critical infrastructure at Interxion’s City of London data centre campus. As a result of this move, the law firm has improved the speed and reliability of services to its customers, as well as a more scalable and resilient IT network.

As one of the largest high-street law firms, MW Solicitors has advised consumers for over 30 years on a variety of legal matters. Over the last couple of years the firm has experienced exponential growth and, after becoming a limited company, in February they received a £5m investment from the Business Growth Fund to continue the firm’s expansion. As a result they needed IT infrastructure that could not only cope with the current expansion plans but also meet future demand.

In light of these challenges, MW Solicitors initially looked at 3 data centre providers to help stabilise and professionalise its IT infrastructure, but Interxion stood out as the clear choice. The location of the data centre, its prestigious client list and track record of technical excellence made it the ideal partner to deliver the strategic infrastructure update.

The data centre has now become the lynchpin of a wider, long-term IT transformation project. The aim of the project is to facilitate the organisation’s expansion plans from 20 to 50 branches over the next 3 years. The law firm has invested in and built its own cloud infrastructure and moving to Interxion has been the catalyst for many other IT improvements that weren’t possible before. This includes the implementation of a new practice management system, real-time sales and billing reports and greater mobile working capabilities.

The benefits of the initial stage of the transformation project have been promising. Thanks to the transparency of Interxion’s business model, MW Solicitors has been able to track power consumption more effectively, resulting in a saving of approximately £8,000 per year. Interxion’s hub of network and cloud providers also means the firm is spoilt for choice when it comes to connecting with the services or infrastructure they require at any given time, providing a strategic edge.

“When we approached Interxion for help, they really understood our business drivers. Our legacy infrastructure created challenges for staff, who had to deal with IT obstacles outside their usual remit. With solicitors billing by the hour and dealing with time-sensitive legal matters, a slow and sometimes unreliable IT infrastructure caused inefficiencies across the business. By assisting us to review our infrastructure, Interxion has helped us to meet our future growth plans and give our solicitors time to focus on what matters most – providing an optimal service to clients in need and living up to our slogan ‘justice is a birthright’,” said David Fazakerley, Chief Information Officer at MW Solicitors.

“Because of their choice to colocate in our City of London data centre campus, we’ve been able to provide MW Solicitors with a strong, robust and resilient IT infrastructure that delivers stable power and scalability. Improved connectivity and the capability to tap into our communities of interest means the firm can also take advantage of strategic services to support their growth. Perhaps more importantly, we’ve given time back to solicitors who want to focus on delivering a quality service as the firm continues to expand,” said Adriaan Oosthoek, UK Managing Director at Interxion.
