Open Source for G-Cloud 6

DataCentred cloud-based IaaS solutions are now available to public sector organizations, supporting the government’s policy to adopt open source software applications

DataCentred is now offering its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Cloud Storage to public sector organizations under the UK government’s G-Cloud 6 framework.

As a leading UK supported and hosted provider of OpenStack cloud, DataCentred is perfectly positioned to support the government in its policy to adopt open source cloud-based software applications. The government has publically stated that “when used in conjunction with compulsory open standards, open source presents significant opportunities for the design and delivery of interoperable solutions.”*

DataCentred’s open source model offers public sector companies cost efficient data storage, freeing businesses from long-term inflexible contracts and allowing access to services on a pay-per-use basis. The competitive, transparent marketplace reduces the time, effort and costs of negotiating individual contract terms and pricing on all solutions, thereby ensuring businesses avoid an implicit lock in with proprietary vendors.

As of November 2014, £393.6 million worth of sales had been generated via the G-Cloud platform. Central government bodies accounted for almost 80% of this total, with the remaining 20% of procurements adopted by the wider public sector.

Eoin Jennings, Sales Director at DataCentred, said:

“As a leading UK based provider of OpenStack IaaS on G-Cloud 6, DataCentred is ideally positioned to support the government’s policy to increase the use of open source solutions amongst public sector bodies. For public bodies and other customers looking for cost effective cloud storage, stored securely within the UK, DataCentred is the clear choice. A recent price comparison of storage providers on the G Cloud framework showed DataCentred is the cheapest UK based provider of cloud storage to the public sector.”
