Huawei introduces Cloud Fabric 3.0 Architecture

Huawei has launched its cloud service-oriented Cloud Fabric 3.0 Architecture at Huawei Network Congress (HNC) 2015. By leveraging software-defined network (SDN) technology, it supports fast service innovation and implementation, and efficient ICT resource integration in the cloud computing era.

“With core infrastructure carrying cloud services, enterprises are facing new challenges within data centers,” said Liu Shaowei, President of Switch and Enterprise Communication Product Line, Huawei. “Our latest Cloud Fabric 3.0 Architecture is developed to help enterprises build data centers that are elastic and scalable, to support evolving business needs.”

Fully-Connected Data Center SDN Solution
The solution adopts an open architecture, which comprises Huawei’s industry-leading CloudEngine series data center switches and Agile Controller. The solution is a unique data center network solution and integrates Huawei’s new Software-defined Data Center Storage Area Network (DC-SAN) and Software Defined Storage Network (SDSN) introduced at HNC 2015, with the existing Huawei Data Center Local Area Network (DC-LAN) and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) network, to help build better connected data centers.

Huawei’s new SDSN helps simplify network management significantly. It centrally deploys fiber channel (FC) protocol stacks on Huawei’s Agile Controller, implementing unified control and management of storage networks. In addition, the SDSN eliminates the drawback of a limited number of traditional FC storage network nodes (less than 239), which significantly improves network capacity.

Industry’s First 100G Connection & 25G Access System
The System increases the interconnection rate of a data center’s switching network from 10G/40G to 100G and supports the access of 25GE servers. The system consists of the following key components:
1. Huawei’s latest CE12800 series data center which provides up to 160 Tbps upgraded core switch performance. In addition, the company launched a 36*100GE high-speed line card that supports 3.6T line-speed forwarding, which is three times the industry average.
2. The Huawei CloudEngine 8860 data center TOR switch is the next-generation high-performance 100GE TOR data center switch. It provides high-density 25GE access and 100GE uplink connection.
3. The Huawei FusionServer series are the first servers to pass the Qlogic 25GE NIC test and support 25GE interface, which increases bandwidth by two and a half times and delivers lower network latency. It supports smooth upgrades from 10GE to 25GE, eliminating the need for cable connection reconfigurations and deployment costs are lower compared to the deployment of 40GE servers.

The Cloud Fabric Architecture is an important part of Huawei’s Agile Network Solution. Since its launch in 2012, the Cloud Fabric Architecture has been deployed in more than 1,000 data centers across 80 countries around the world.
