Rijnstate hospital, a center of medical excellence in the Netherlands, has once again chosen Proact as its partner to deliver and partially manage its IT infrastructure.

Rijnstate’s IT infrastructure is reaching the end of its service life and its current environment no longer meets the needs and wishes of hospital management.

One important requirement was for the flexibility, scalability and availability of the IT infrastructure to be increased, so Rijnstate wanted to differentiate between a production platform and an archive platform for the rapidly-growing quantities of digital images within the hospital. The new solution has to be a stable and robust IT environment with sufficient flexibility to respond to enquiries from end-users.

Henco Hendriksen, acting Automation manager at Rijnstate, says, “Choosing a solution is one thing, but who we are working with is at least as important. Proact is a mature business with specific knowledge of the hospital market. In their advisory role they have contributed brilliantly within today’s changing IT infrastructure market. It’s also ideal that from our years of cooperation we already know that we can rely on the high-quality Dutch-speaking support 24x7 that a hospital needs. The new platform will offer enormous flexibility so end-users can receive a proactive and positive response to their needs and wishes.”

In addition to continued service provision for the out-tasking of the backup environment, two new expansions to the IT infrastructure will be provided by Proact. Rijnstate has decided to replace the current NetApp storage with NetApp Metrocluster, a Clustered Data ONTAP OS, for the IT infrastructure components of the production environment. This means that with an extremely flexible IT environment medical specialists can rely on the desired availability and performance of data from the EPD and the PACS environment.

For the archive platform a combination has been chosen with a scalable EMC Isilon solution to offer an environment from an archiving layer that can meet the demand for growth of various digital images in a cost-efficient way. A common problem in hospitals is resolved.

Lucas den Os, Managing Director of Proact Netherlands, “Hospital IT departments will and must restructure into a department that adds value for users with an available, flexible and performance-optimized IT infrastructure. Proact already has a proven track record in supporting and guiding many health care organizations, including various hospitals and mental health care institutions. We are extremely proud that Rijnstate has chosen us as a partner to help with this next step and realize its objectives in the areas of availability, continuity and provision of services to its end-users.”
