e-shelter launches second Munich data centre

e-shelter, a leading European data center operator, NTT Communications company, and “home to the cloud,” was joined by customers, partners, media representatives and civic leaders today to celebrate the opening of its second data center in Munich. The festivities included a welcoming address by the Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Ilse Aigner as well as by the mayor of Unterschlei?heim, Christoph B?ck.

Aigner: „Bavaria is head of the digital revolution in Europe. The European Commission recently declared Munich as number one hotspot for ICT in Europe. A fundamental component for digitalization is data storage and processing, in particular with the highest level of data-security as well as a maximum degree of availability. e-shelter is one of the leading data center operators in Europe and guarantees highest standards and quality. The investment in the new data center is a further step in the company’s future and promotes Bavaria as internationally outstanding ICT-hub.”

Munich 2, based in the Unterschlei?heim district of Munich, is the latest part of
e-shelter’s ongoing expansion plans. The opening follows the mid-April launch of the highly-anticipated
e-shelter innovation lab in Frankfurt.

Christoph B?ck, mayor of Unterschlei?heim: “The city of Unterschlei?heim is an innovative business location. e-shelter, with its infrastructure, is another strong partner for us in an area with considerable future relevance - digital transformation. I am particularly happy that the city of Unterschlei?heim meets the high security requirements and offers e-shelter the needed infrastructure to offer their customers a secure way to outsource their IT and network systems. I am convinced that many of our companies and start-ups in our digital start-up center ACU Accelerator Community Unterschlei?heim will benefit from the new data center.”

As an NTT Communications company, e-shelter customers are part of an expansive global data center network, which features over 140 data centers across EMEA, USA and Asia. Further locations across EMEA are to be announced in 2017.

“After teaming up with e-shelter almost two years ago, we have been delighted to watch them continue to achieve dynamic growth,” comments Tetsuya Shoji, president and CEO of NTT Communications. “The e-shelter team transforms ideas and strategies into tangible innovations, and supports clients and partners to implement their digital transformation projects successfully.”
