London’s largest data centre campus goes live

VIRTUS Data Centre Campus at Stockley Park will meet the need for hyper efficient, well connected, flexible and scalable space.

VIRTUS Data Centres (VIRTUS), the UK’s fastest growing data centre provider, has announced that its Stockley Park campus is now online, with the first pre-let customer to be live imminently. VIRTUS LONDON5 and LONDON6 are the first two data centres to open on the campus, delivering 40 MW of IT capacity between them.

LONDON5 and LONDON6 will bring VIRTUS’ total IT load capacity in the London area to 90MW. With plans for another 25MW at LONDON7 on the Stockley Park Campus well underway, this will bring VIRTUS’ total London portfolio to 115MW. At just over seventeen acres, the VIRTUS Stockley Park Campus will be London’s largest data centre campus and one of the most advanced data centre facilities in the in the UK. The campus has the secured power capacity to increase to 120MVA of incoming power from diverse grid connection points and 70,000m2 of data centre space. It is design certified to Uptime Institute Tier III standard and will help customers future proof their expansion options for flexible colocation on a site that has the scale to deliver longer term capacity.

VIRTUS’ Data Centre Campus is strategically located at the intersection of UK telecom carriers outer London resilient fibre loops and the lowest latency fibre paths between Slough and London. The mega campus is built to cater for the connectivity requirements of all businesses, from hyper-scalers to proprietary and high frequency trading companies. Access to telecoms duct and high-count fibre is an essential part of VIRTUS’ colocation offering and the company has deployed a multi-subducted infrastructure solution to offer resilient access to all carriers from launch.

With easy access to public cloud platforms through VIRTUS Cloud Connect, this location provides an ideal data centre option for hybrid IT deployments. The VIRTUS campus will also be immersion technology ready; providing the ability deploy immersion infrastructure to improve density and efficiency.

This news follows a successful first half of 2018 for VIRTUS. The company has moved into the position of one of the UK’s top three colocation operators and the UK’s largest operator in London - one of the world’s most established colocation markets.

VIRTUS reports that its continued expansion has been fuelled, in part, by the unprecedented rate of growth of enterprise cloud adoption, with VIRTUS becoming home in London to major public clouds, as well as enterprise private clouds.  VIRTUS’ university ecosystem also continues to grow, with the addition of the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) making a total of 24 Universities and Research organisations collaborating within the VIRTUS portfolio.

Neil Cresswell, CEO of VIRTUS Data Centres, commented, “The go live of our VIRTUS Data Centre Campus at Stockley Park is part of an important year for VIRTUS. We continue to see a burgeoning demand for colocation in the UK data centre market, as enterprises and cloud providers scale out their platforms to meet user demand for digital services. VIRTUS provides leading flexibility and the highest quality customer service and solutions at hyper-scale. We offer our customers true flexibility in design and can tailor solutions to customers’ exact needs. Importantly, we also have a power and space road-map in London of over 100MW that can continue to support customers as their needs change and their businesses grow. We look forward to a successful 2018 and beyond, as we continue to meet the demands of a dynamic market.”
