Ultima Labs launches

Automation and infrastructure service provider Ultima is today launching a software development arm of its business, Ultima Labs. As an Independent Software Vendor (ISV), Ultima Labs has a range of software tools under development that will allow businesses to adopt the latest automation technology more easily. The move follows high demand from customers that have previously struggled with cloud-based automation due to security concerns or who have faced the challenges of automating Citrix and Microsoft RDS published applications.

Ultima Labs’ flagship product IA-Connect, addresses the big security concern of customers who do not want to automate over a VPN as it enables fast, secure automation of business processes over Microsoft RDS, Citrix Cloud and Citrix virtual apps and desktops sessions. IA-Connect will provide a secure route into other automation tools in the future.

Scott Dodds, CEO, Ultima comments, “RPA-based software development is what we’ve specialised in for some time, but the launch of Ultima Labs allows us to showcase our automation software which is a key growth area for us. As we bring out new and exciting tools to make automation a reality for customers the promises of improved productivity and reduced operating costs from digital transformation will become a reality for every business. It also opens opportunities for us to work with leading vendors. We’re already working with the world’s leading RPA vendor, Blue Prism, to help them deliver robust and secure automation, having integrated IA-Connect with Blue Prism’s connected RPA platform.”

Amyn Jaffer, Head of Ultima Labs explains, “Our first automation tool, IA-Connect, has turned a previously painful process into one that the IT department can confidently sign off overnight as it ticks all of the security boxes. We have already embedded IA-Connect into many business processes at the Royal Berkshire Trust. We’ve enabled the Trust to quickly and easily retrieve information, such as scans, and send them back and forth within departments for diagnosis. We are also working with many other organisations to automate processes, including a large business services company and a global investment firm.

“We’re also using IA-Connect in our own managed services business to automate processes we undertake for our clients, making our service more efficient, consistent and cost effective. We know that many other businesses will want to do this for their customers too,” says Amyn.

IA-Connect allows a Robotic Process Automation (RPA) developer to create automations in practically the same manner as a “local” automation development, without needing to resort to screen scraping or surface automation. This not only reduces development time when compared with surface automation but also increases the robustness of the processes and reduces maintenance and support.

With IA-Connect, the security issues of cloud-based RPA automation are also addressed. By providing a bridge between the Software Robots and the desktop or published application session on the Citrix or Remote Desktop server, IA-Connect enables users to “reach through” the virtual session to perform automations. The result is an entirely secure, more straightforward path to RPA automation from the cloud. This capability will be the basis of many other product launches within Ultima Lab’s toolset.
