Acumen Cyber, a provider of cybersecurity services, has announced the appointment of Derek Whigham as their new Non-Executive Director and Strategic Advisor. This move signifies a step for the company as it seeks to consolidate its presence across the UK.
Derek Whigham has over 28 years of experience in cybersecurity and technology. He most recently worked at Lloyds Banking Group as Chief Product Owner in the Chief Security Office, overseeing operational cyber defence, e-crime and intelligence functions for the bank’s retail and commercial operations.
During his time in the role, Derek was responsible for large-scale transformation programmes covering security operations, identity and access management and cloud security. His remit included managing more than 30 product owners and specialist teams across multiple security functions.
He has experience in crisis and cyber-incident management, including making operational decisions under pressure and responding to complex cyber threats. As a Research Director at ISACA, he offers insights on risks linked to quantum computing and generative AI, contributing toward shaping the future of global cyber defence.
In alignment with his extensive industry experience, Whigham is an Advisory Council Member at the MITRE Center for Threat Informed Defense. Here, he actively advances adversary-focused defence strategies, bringing valuable expertise to potential efforts.
